For us, natural stone is just like a page out the history book of our Earth. Originating millions of years ago during our planet’s evolution, today it is found and exploited with immense effort in the world’s quarries. Its primeval nature gives it its luminous colours and attractiveness. This is why we have decided not to alienate it by using synthetic surfaces. Our furniture achieves its shine and silky-edged feel from being processed exclusively with water and diamond polishing discs.

In this context, it is helpful to point our some typical natural features: Particularly in granite and gneiss, we find so-called craquelé, a fine network of hairline cracks and small scratches which can be felt on the surface of the tabletop and are visible in back-lighting.

Cooling cracks in large individual crystals or in the surface date from the stone’s time of origin, caused by differing cooling times for the various minerals. Although they can be up to several centimetres long, they are mostly crystalline intergrown and have no impact at all on statics. An actual open crack on a slab would not be able to withstand the stress of processing. The tabletop would inevitably break under the weight of our polishing machines.

The small craters visible on the tabletop’s surface, particularly in granite, stem from crystals which have fallen out or been washed away. The stones are made up of mineral substances with different hardnesses. This means that particularly the softer parts can be removed or washed out during processing. These are typical features of natural stone which we do not wish to conceal behind synthetic filling material for the reasons stated above.

General care instructions:
  • Granites, quartzites, basalt and gneiss belong to the hard stones from the deeper layers of the Earth’s crust. This means they are extremely scratch resistant to all usual household utensils and resistant to all usual acids and alkalines.
  • This does not apply to the soft stones such as marble, Travertine and limestone. These are softer and can be easily scratched, although they can also be more easily refurbished. Be careful with all kinds of acids (juices, wine, carbonic acid!) They will attack the surface and professional polishing will be required to repair it.
  • Due to their crystalline structure, natural stones take up liquids and return them to the air through evaporation. This means that water will temporarily leave a dark stain. Our tabletops are consequently pre-treated with special waxes which slow this process down and allow easier care. Depending on use and cleaning habits, this preventive treatment should be regularly repeated with polishing wax, every three months at the latest. You will find appropriate stone care agents (Draenert Stone Care SP1) among our range of products which are available from your furniture store.
  • Should a persistent stain appear after all, e.g. through coloured liquids, generous soaking using a wet sponge overnight will help. This will rinse the particles of colour into the lower layers of stone and the tabletop will regain its former appearance. We then recommend freshening up the surface with Draenert Stone Care.
  • Be careful, however, with grease stains or stains caused by synthetic substances (ink, felt pens, etc.). In such an event, please contact your furniture store or our company directly. For this purpose, we offer special stone cleaning agents (Draenert Basic Cleaner, Draenert Stain Stopper).
  • Be careful with rough and mat stone surfaces!!! We also have on offer some granite and gneiss stones with a rough surface and flame or mat scarfing. For the care of these surfaces, only Spot Stop (Draenert SS1) should be used.
The Stone Care (Draenert SP1) used otherwise is only suitable for polished surfaces.
  • When moving a stone table within your home, do not carry the full weight on the projecting edges of the tabletop as you could conceivably damage the plate. Use wooden supports which reach under the sub-construction.
